I'm not sure how I feel about this publicity stunt. Raising awareness is always commendable, but declaring a barren wasteland the only safe continent for LGBT people is a little sad.

Then again... any excuse for pictures of the pride flag and penguins.

The one on the right looks kinda judgmental.

Perhaps their next target could be to declare the Moon first LGBT friendly satellite...

This unimpressed penguin is my new spirit animal. Perfectly encapsulates my reaction to this stunt.

Huh, interesting. I'm sure as the earth warms up, it'll become a much more desirable place to live. Might have to look at real-estate there.

But who actually owns it? I imagine this is probably gonna be disputed.

    But... Penguins!

    Technically?
A lot of countries. Various countries have a 'claim' to various areas of Antarctica - for instance, New Zealand has claim to the Ross Sea and the surrounding area.

But, because of the Antarctic Treaty, at the moment it doesn't mean much. (Key words: at the moment)
No one is allowed to dispute or confirm any claim to Antarctic Territory, and no one is allowed to make laws based on them or try to actually enforce these claims.

So in the context of countries trying to claim and enforce land ownership in Antarctica... it could get messy very quickly. It would have, had the the Treaty not been signed in 1959.

Also, there's more making Antarctica a very undesirable place to live than just the cold

... Let's just say that if that happens, there will be far, far more pressing things than moving to Antartica.

Like the fact the nearly 90 meter rise in Sea Level if both of the Antarctic Ice Sheets melt would flood over 90% of the world's cities. Yeah.

Anyway, as a lover of Antarctica, I am fine with this. Who doesn't love Penguins?

This news seems like something from a political cartoon mocking people who don't accept LGBTQ people.

I hope the message gets across. :icon_bigg

In other words, if you don't want to face discrimination then move to Antarctica.

Well, if I ever become spontaneously rich and powerful I'd be happy to create the first nation to lack stupidity entirely. The world needs a place for bright minds who don't like being weighed down.

Sadly, humanity doesn't agree with me. A girl can dream.

The penguin was like, "huh, what is this colourful thing?" Then just "whatever, I want some fishes."
