Like, I can't even begin to fathom what it must be like to live in such a reactionary country as the US. It's like if you Americans would try to fathom what it's like to live in Saudi Arabia or North Korea. Sigh...

When it comes back to bite them in the butt, I feel an "I told you so" will be in order.

Aside, the US loves being on the wrong side of history doesn't it?

It seems to be fairly high up on its list of favorite pass-times, yes. *nods wisely while mumbling*

Honestly, I hopened that this teaches them a lesson. Discrimination will cause lost business. That being said, I do feel bad for those who are LGBT that are living I need the state of North Carolina right now. I hope that they are able to find spaces that are safe for them.

I'm a bio-male and comfortable with it, but if I go to the mall and some pig in a uniform is standing at the door to the bathroom and says "just gots to check your genitals, sir" I'm going to smack him across the mouth and say "Get your mitts off me, motherfucker."

    This.

How are they even supposed to enforce the bathroom provisions? How is one supposed to tell if someone is trans and using the "wrong" bathroom? What protections are in place to make sure someone doesn't take advantage of the rules to harass people?

It's McCarthyist nonsense that's not been thought through and taxpayers are going to end up footing the bill for it.

Why are we still calling this the 'bathroom bill'? We should call it what it is: the 'Trans discrimination bill'

True. So sad, I wish our government didn't make these kinds of laws possible just because there happen to be a bunch of ignorant bigots in office. Hopefully things turn around soon.

    This.

Even if they repeal this though, the damage is already done. Both to the LGBT+, and to the bigots who would feel more able to express themselves because they feel the state backs them up.

It's one of those things that makes less since the more you think about it. The law can't be effectively enforced, it does nothing to deal with actual predators, and it leaves transgender people vulnerable.

Of course, the goal isn't to make sense. It's to take advantage of people's fears for political purposes. Legislators in North Carolina likely know the law is garbage, but a balanced, reasonable approach doesn't sell.

Well I was thinking about moving to NC. Not so sure about that anymore... I think I'll stick to the Rainbow Coast.

I said this before and I'm going to say it again
Get me the f*ck out of this wacko state somebody please

In all seriousness, I was talking with a couple other trans kids at my school the other day, and we all are really confused on how they're going to enforce this. I know one thing- if any person, I don't care what high and mighty government position they might hold, tries to touch me in that place, I'll rip their face off and shove it up their butt.

Nonetheless, this bill has caused a lot of anxiety among the lgbt community here. NC doesn't know how bad they screwed up. A couple kids I know who were planning to attend NC State or UNC (And their grades aren't too shabby either) are now determined to attend a college anywhere but here. I was already planning to get the heck out, but now I know there's no way in hell I'm staying here one second longer than I have too, and there's definitely no way I'm ever going to come back.

Saw on CNN news crawl this AM:

PayPal has backed out of a planned expansion in (or into) NC and explicitly stated it was due to this bill. Going to cost NC about 400 jobs apparently.

My husband and I agreed it would be great fun if our Governor could get them to move a couple hours North to Va. He publicly vetoed a similar bill on live radio recently and has something of a thing for working to get businesses to come here.

Heh, heh, heh. Let the economic gutting of the conservatives begin:thumbsup:

I actually just read that Stephen Shwartz cancelled a showing of Wicked that was supposed to be here because of this.
And this is why he is, to this day, my favorite composer.

The latest company to pull out of North Carolina is Paypal. I can understand why these companies are doing this, but it really sucks that the people that are just trying to live their lives are being penalized.
