No one said anything yet. Personal aside, I was always skeptical of his ''who am I to judge stance?'' which the LGBT Community was too quick to swallow. A Pope who would have been in favour of LGBT rights would have made it clear from the get-go and not lead to discussions as to what his position truly is.

What makes it even sadder is that the article supports the pope's argument by saying that it is a reflection of the statement made by the American college of pedriatricians, not mentioning that the ACP are actually classified as an LGBT hate group (with 200 members) who use a scientific sounding name to support their bigotry. Sigh. :icon_sad:

Aah, the ACP. My boyfriend actually agrees with their stance on trans matter. Maybe one day I will research more on them and I might win a debate with him.

Well, being gay and sharing your views with an organization that advocates reparative therapy and says that homosexual parents hurt children should be enough to make you think very carefully about the legitimacy of your views...

He's a Pope... That should pretty much sum it up for you, it would be silly for a group that uses fear to drive their herd to say something like, "Hey guys, try to be nicer to people that are different than you or follow different practices!" I'd be shocked if the Pope actually went by what he said previously, he's nothing more than a "religious" politician...

To be honest, I have nothing against Pope Francis. Yeah, he's not exactly an ally, but hell he's a Pope, what do you want. The way I think about it, it could be a lot worse. After all, that batsh*t crazy woman from the Westboro Baptist Church could be pope, starting a witchhunt....

I hope that one day everyone will just support everyone! The Pope is using his power of speech horribly, saying things like that. People are allowed to change their gender. They own their body.

The Pope is a good and well intentioned man. But he shouldn't talk about things he knows nothing about i.e. reality! He should stick to talking about how many angles fit on the tip of a pin and other such important issues. He should leave discussing the real world to people that live in it.

(as you might have guessed I'm an atheist)

I'm not surprised to hear this. Religion still has very anti-LGBT stances in some cases, especially when it comes to creation and 'god not making mistakes'. It's a shame that he can say things like this when people all over the world are getting cosmetic surgery to make their nose smaller or their bust bigger. What makes trans people changing their bodies any different? Either have the same argument for everyone or change your opinion because there's no "it works like this for this minority of people but everyone else can do as they please".

Besides, who ever said god didn't intend for us to be transgender? Maybe we had something to learn or go through that could.only be done in the wrong body, but he/she/they never intended for us to stay that way. Who was it that said that God works in mysterious ways?

I definitely don't find the pope's statement surprising at all. I even understand why people immediately take this stance. The problem is that people can be so closed minded that they don't even take time to consider the other side. If everyone took the time to really understand the struggles that a transgendered person goes through, the entire process, and the way they felt before transitioning, I know that they wouldn't be so judgemental.

The comments on this article are really sad and frustrating. I hate reading comments, comment boards seem to be where people feel free enough to be the worst versions of themselves.

Also, to add, my favourite argument is why do you care? You don't have to live in their body, but they do, so let them do what they want with it.

I told him that and he was just like "Meh. Their methodology in this case seems to add up" :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Well, you can't really argue against methodology!

    Oh wait:

Hate Group Masquerading As Pediatricians Attacks Transgender Youth | ThinkProgress

Apparently their methodology mostly consists of them randomly making up facts and making statements without any real evidence to support their claims because they are in fact a hate group...

A more detailed response that refutes the claims made by the ACP:

Funny how a religion that feels they are persecuted can persecute others.

I can't say that I'm surprised that the pope is acting completely in character. Make no mistake, Pope Francis is one of the most "liberal" popes there has ever been, and he has drawn the ire of conservatives. I even know some people who have been considering leaving the Catholic church because of their disgust with his "liberal" stances. That said, he's not going to ever break with fundamental Catholic doctrine, including the idea that homosexuality is innately sinful and that God created male and female and nothing else.

There are much, much worse things he could be saying: you hear far worse from religious types. Personally, I think Pope Francis seems like a nice guy

I'm not trans so I don't know if I'm supposed to answer, but this kinda upsets me. I really thought he was gonna do a lot of good stuff for the Catholic Church:/
