    Presumably this is Selective Service?

Whilst ideally I think the whole evil thing needs outlawing, requiring women to register is the next best thing - at least that is equality and it might force people to reevaluate how injust the whole system is.

Plus surely with the allowance of female combatants in the military Rostker v. Goldberg is null and void anyway?

It is crazy that even men who are physically incapable of combat (although not "disabled" as such) are forced to register, when women who may be much stronger are not.

Edit: Wait, so has this actually passed yet or not?

I disagree with the whole thing as well, but if men have to do it, I don't see why women should not, considering they can serve in the military too.

How about not drafting anyone into the military? The whole concept of military drafts completely goes against the ideals of liberty that the US was founded on.

This is my feeling as well.

Ultimately I don't agree with Selective Service and I hated having to register with it after high school. At the same time, as long as it's going to be around, then it should be as equally applied as possible.

I mean, I'm not opposed to this, but men and women alike should not have to be forced to do this. Goddamn America

    About dang time honestly.

I'm not a fan of selective service and if it ever really came down to it, I'd probably chose to go to jail rather than serve on principle alone. That being said, if men are required to sign up for this, than women should be as well.

I am mostly curious to see what direction feminists run with this. My money is on that they'll find some way that this is sexist and unfair to women, but we'll see

I'm 26 so I finally exited out of being part of the Selective Service draftable pool (!).

It's good that there's a little less legalized sexism, but I really don't think the draft is necessary at all and as states above, goes against the principles the country was founded on... just like the pledge of allegiance.

The army seems big enough as it is, people willingly join too, it's not like we're the center of an interplanetary war... They do know the Empire from Star Wars is fiction I hope, but I know US legislators have trouble separating fact and fiction.

I don't think anyone should be required to register for draft... male or female. I just don't think it's right.

Dear god I just had the realization that I'm almost 24... Nearly out of the pool myself...

I'm guessing it'll be "women suffer from the patriarchy enough so should be exempt"...completely ignoring the fact that other way more disadvantaged groups are forced to register.

About time, I'm against the idea of the draft but it's not fair that just men are forced to sign up.

Yeah, probably. There are a very small minority that actually support this though, in all fairness. I am more than willing to acknowledge that the overwhelming majority of the movement has no interest in actual equality, but at the same time it's not an organized movement in the slightest and it seems unfair to put everyone in the same box with it.

I don't really put them all in the same box.

My view with this falls closest in line to Kyle from Secular Talk's views, but this is side tracking.

I was following this a bit on facebook and a lot of people were upset about it, but they all made the case that selective service as a whole needed to go away. I can live with that.

Maybe adding women will rally up a movement that completely does away with it X3

Which raises another question - why is the 'pool' only applicable to 19-25 year olds? I mean, if a 19 year old American male cannot legally buy alcohol, why is he deemed old enough to be drafted into conflict such the need arise? What prevents a 28, 29, 30 year old from being drafted? They're still young, presumably fit and the military can surely do with as many people as possible.

    Such a strange system.

It should not be required of anyone.

I'm totally against war, so I would not be joining even if the country wanted me to. (And I would totally refuse to serve for Canada anyway) It should be the same for the US. Your army is big enough as it is. You don't need civilians in it as well.
