One thing I'm still not completely sure about is when this goes into practice. Have the exclusions officially been removed from the marketplace or do we need to wait until the our insurance company's next cycle has cleared (so I guess next year)?

I'm hoping once I have the energy, I'll ask my insurance company or see if my doctor heard about this yet--or even the clinic I go to in Philadelphia if they know anything about this. So I would say if you're trans (this would go for anyone who is agender, genderqueer, non-binary and the like) and you live in Pennsylvania, get in touch with your provider and see if their policies have changed for you--or check the bulletin link for an email address you can get in touch with.

This is a huge deal, and super awesome! (*hug*) Access to transition care should be available to everyone.

I made a post about this on Tumblr, and told people they should get in touch with the Mazzoni Center to see if they have more details on this...and it turns out they just shared an article about this yesterday. So here's more on that if anyone is interested.

    PA issues trans-inclusive insurance rule

Basically, I'm totes excited (since me and my case worker at the Mazzoni Center just had a talk about something like this about a month ago) and crossing my fingers that if this is in motion, that I can get more things done soon; especially since I was told I could technically get my gender marker changed to male on my social security if I wanted to.

    Man, our governor kicks ass.

Amen. The Out2Enroll link I provided in the post (or here if you want to get there quicker) goes into more detail about the thing, along with mentioning that Michigan and Montana will be officially removing their exclusions in January 2017.

Random side point, how did Montana do this? I thought we would do it on the Mississippi time frame.

I don't really know. It still blows my mind that (according to TransEquality or Wikipedia), Mississippi is one of the few states that says you don't need proof of surgery to get your birth certificate amended. Now that trips me up, considering how many bigoted laws they have and/or tried to pass.

I'm looking forward to when the rest of the country (and the world) gets on board with doing things like this.

Hopefully the others will join in before too much longer... nothing wrong with a little sanity, USA. It's still well under half but progress is progress.

This is exciting and big news! I can't wait until Florida hops on the growing bandwagon to ban trans exclusions. Hopefully in the next year or so!

Not shocked honestly. Pennsylvania is a lot more conservative than people realize or want to admit.

Late on this response... just was looking through history of posts.
