Kitchener woman follows car's GPS directions into Lake Huron, swims to shore - CityNews

A woman from Kitchener, Ontario followed her GPS directions in fog and rain and wound up driving down a boat launch into Lake Huron in Tobermory, Ontario. She swam to shore and called the police, who had to use a scuba team as well as a tow truck to get the car out of the water.

This isn't the first time that GPS directions have caused a disaster, and there have been lawsuits from people who've gotten lost in the desert following their Garmin.

This isn't the first time I've heard a story of a Canadian women driving her car into a lake. I remember Justin88 told me about it a while back!

I'm sure this happens a lot in winter! Once the snow gets going though, doesn't matter what kind of navigation you have, the roads are gone.

It's a little more excusable because of the rain and fog :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Still... Wasn't there like signs or something that let you know you're driving into a marina or something?

Tobermory is a small, quaint town on Lake Huron. There's way too much waterfront to sign all of it! And the fog gets really bad with the lake effect, not to mention trees. https://goo.gl/maps/uZhFzzSHcqp

Omg and I just realized, she's from Kitchner? Unless she's got family in Tobermory or Manitouland Island, she was pretty far from home!

Whatever happened to having a sense of direction and/or using a map?
