I'm actually surprised, but pleased, that he vetoed it. My guess is he won't be winning any "best governor" contests from the bigoted legislators that passed the bill.

As I have previously states many times before, civil rights should not be a state issue. If an abortion is against your beliefs, don't get one... problem solved. More than half the time it's men, and I feel that's a bit ironic. This would have quite literally forced unwanted children on rape victims and such, don't think they've been through enough already? If the parent is young neither parent nor child would live a happy life, financial reasons too, forcing a child to have a child should be the crime here.
Thankfully, it's a veto. That means there's still shreds of sanity there.

If the GOP could just keep their hands to themselves, that would be great.

The only reason Fallin vetoed this is because it was "too vague", and not because abortion services should be a private matter between a patient and a doctor or OBGYN. She's being very widely considered to be a potential VP candidate for Donald Drumpf.

But the interesting part for me is, they seem to think now is a good time to challenge Roe, and the legislation was clearly meant to be litigated. What this means is that now the Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit doesn't have to consider any constitutional questions.

Seems odd to me that the party would put Fallin in this position in the first place. If she signs it then there'd be expensive, losing legal battles to contend with which would piss off a lot of people at a time when the state is staring at a huge budget deficit. In vetoing it she'll have bound to have pissed off the hardline religious conservatives that make up a large part of the party's base.
