    It's kind of sad that things like this don't even surprise me anymore. :shrug:

    It may not be North Carolina level right now but there's countless crazies.

    No, it would not be. That's why it's probably going to be remanded for retrial.

    Also, why do we need a law for this? We have Batson. Or does the article mean that the "law" was Batson?

    Whether he did it or not isn't the issue. The issue is he should've gotten a fair trial under the law. The DA can still retry him.

    I agree that it would be terrible if he were factually innocent and the state wrongly convicted an innocent man, and terrible for the citizens of the state if he were factually guilty and now the finders of fact have had their work overturned because of a bigot prosecutor.

    That said, the greatest injury to the people was the mismanagement of the judicial system that placed greater harm on society than what this man may or may not have done.

    (Terrorism by foreign powers is the only circumstance I agree where the Constitution should be as pliable as a steamed vellum parchment).
