I think I'd heard of this once before? I'm not sure, my memory is far from sufficient...

Whether of not I have is irrelevant however, it's rather interesting. I do wish it were a sufficient amount larger, it would be rather beautiful in the sky. I'd be a bit concerned for the tides though. Ever seen the twin moons in Elder Scrolls? That's what I mean, quite elegant.

But on the subject, technically speaking...

We have got to stop societies obsession with labeling things. It can be our 2nd moon. I mean who is the moon of who? Charon and Pluto orbit a common barycenter. So does the earth and moon system, although the earth moon barycenter is below the earths surface. The same applies here.

It's technically not a "moon". It orbits the sun. It's just that the Earth's gravity pulls it and it's sometimes behind the Earth and sometimes in front of the Earth.

I like the moon. It's pretty. I wish we could see the second one.

You tell those scientists! Who do they think they are, using all their data and research to say something you don't agree with!

I welcome our new moon. I hope it stays a while and doesn't crash into us.

And some scientists agree with me... I believe calling it a moon is a misnomer. I've known about this thing for a while. (unless of course if this is a second asteroid like this they discovered). The reason I'm reluctant to agree with "those scientists" is because this asteroid really does orbit the sun. It's a quasi-satellite. Quasi-satellite orbits typically look like this. [IMG]

Also, just because a title of an article calls it a moon, it doesn't mean it is nor did any "scientists" call it a moon. This is how misinformation gets spread.

And finally, the articles clearly show NASA calling it a quasi-satellite and not a moon.

I really feel for the moon in this one.. Long distance relationships can be hard; looks like it might just be a "Fling" though.
