Take a look at the following article from Military Times (dated June 30, 2016).

    Thoughts?

I think it's great to see positive change, I still won't be confident in the US's law systems until either the ERA is passed at last or separation of church and state is enforced.

Both are as likely as getting impaled by a unicorn at this point. So while I stand firmly on the fact the US is insane, I suppose the broken clock is right twice a day.

But to not get too far off topic, I imagine it will take quite some time for the military to adapt for equality. Sort of like past and continuing civil rights advancements, I fear there will be a time of violence before equality reaches common knowledge.

That actually sounds awesome. No forcing "full" transition, medical and mental health covered, training for cisgender members of the military, etc. Literally the only issue is that it's binary. Well done US military, well done. (y)

What I'm wondering, is if you join pre-transition, will all the procedures and HRT be covered during enlistment (after basic training)? Because I didn't really understand the "18 month" clause.

I hope this doesn't mean we have to enter the draft now.

im not sure if this passed but women may have to enter the draft so literally everyone now can be drafted which to me is terrifying. I think everyone should have a choice.

But im glad if I go into the navy every thing will be covered

I think it is great that the military is doing this. I am a veteran and I am going through the V.A for my transition. My hope is that this will lead to more understanding at the state and Federal law maker levels.

    This is great!

Firstly, it means that people that want to fight for those they love can.
But more importantly, the Military is a powerhouse in the US - surely this kind of exposure and discussion will make things better, make even a few people rethink their views?

I still would never live in America. But this is a good move.
