    Brock Turner scheduled to be released from jail on Friday - NY Daily News
    :***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***::***:

    This makes me so mad. My blood's boiling right now, and its taking a lot of effort to not throw in some choice words for this ...yeah exactly. And to top it all off, he blames it on alcohol and drugs. Even when I'm drunk, I'm always nice to the ladies (and to the men too I think).

    Thank god Michelle Dauber (bless her soul) is at least holding a protest.

    What the hell is wrong with our justice system. Why do people who are wrongly convicted get 5 years but people who actually did it get 6 months? This is terrible.

    I really feel for the girl, this scum should be shot imo. I loved how a bunch of people did a mass witch hexing like the day or so after news got out of this rich white scum getting pity from his dad or something and a likely lesser harsh sentence.

    With America's justice system there are more non-violent drug addicts who get time than anyone else. That includes murder and rape. Even if he got life that doesn't take the horrendous act he did away. More than anything I hope the victim can find peace in life somehow. I wouldn't blame her if she tried to kill him but I wouldn't advise that.

    Seconded. Like our gun background check loopholes it needs to be amended, but won't be. We'd need a major change in management to start moving again.

    A few things here that aren't popular but need to be said about the case.

    1. He was not convicted of rape, he was convicted of assault. Under California law he did not commit rape, because that involves sexual intercourse. Under similar circumstances, most first time offenders would receive a lenient sentence. The sentence he received was what was recommended by the probation officer in Santa Clara County.

    2. Combine an assault charge with no criminal record and you get a fairly light jail sentence. Not to mention, he'll be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life. Good luck getting a job when you're a registered sex offender. From the Franklin County Sheriff in Ohio, here's a taste of what the rest of his life will be like:

    3. This is precisely why judges should not be elected or subject to recall. It opens Pandora's box that would result in judges making decisions in criminal cases, especially sentencing, based solely on public opinion and not the circumstances and mitigating factors. I have a feeling that the "Recall Persky" organizers doesn't know or understand what I just got done saying above, and nor do they want to because it doesn't fit their narrative of "ZOMG ALL MEN ARE OUT RAPING EVERY WOMAN THEY SEE!!!11!!1" when that clearly isn't the case.

    4. This is the most controversial, and partially unrelated, but hear me out. Sex offender registries serve no real purpose. They increase recidivism because, as I said above, good luck ever getting a job as a sex offender, so many end up committing more crimes, be they sex related or not, to survive. They drive down property values as well. Anybody can punch an address into a website and see which sex offenders live where, and if there's one in your neighborhood, good luck ever selling your house. Publicly shaming someone for a crime they committed, no matter how serious, doesn't make them any less likely to reoffend. In fact, it ups their chances of reoffending. But above all, sex offender registries were just another thing that sounded like a good idea in the mid-1990s when everyone was freaked out about crime, and it's always a good campaign ad for a politician to come home and say, "We're getting tough on crime!"

    Unfortunately, lots of college guys rape girls. It's almost part of the party culture. It's wrong of course.

    It almost sickens me that people who use marijuana have way worse sentences than a rapist and sometimes even a killer. Release them and make more room for scumbags like this.

    This. I understand why some of the basic sex registry stuff is done, but I think a lot of the stuff we do is unnecessary- then again, I haven't met a ton of rapists, so maybe not. All I know is that if I could work with a former murderer in a professional setting, I shouldn't have an issue working with a rapist. :/ Maybe it's because of my pessimistic "all humans are evil" attitude, but I try to see everyone in a professional setting unless their past conflicts with my current work... This includes my personal life. >_< I know not everyone is the same way and I wouldn't expect them to be, but that's just how I am, and I think that's why I am so against the notifications and everything that we give people just living slightly close to that person... When we release people, it means we trust them enough to not commit crimes the second they're free, even if they need regular monitoring. We're putting these people out on parade and not letting them come back into society if we treat them openly like monsters.

    I'm looking forward to someone kicking his ass, though they'd more than likely get more jail time than him which would show how fucked our justice system is.
