General News Rest in Peace, Leonard Cohen

To cap off an "interesting" week, the beautiful poet, Leonard Cohen, died yesterday at the age of 82.

He was a fellow Montrealer, and has honoured our city by incorporating it into his work. My favourite song of his is "Suzanne", and of course, the river he wrote about is our beautiful St-Lawrence, I love playing that song on my guitar.

Just about 2 months ago, he released his last album. I happen to know the Montreal cantor he collaborated with for the song You Want it Darker which is also the title of the album. These lines from the song are typical of the master poet he was:

If you are the dealer
I’m out of the game
If you are the healer
I’m broken and lame
If thine is the glory
Then mine must be the shame
You want it darker
We kill the flame

In Montreal, we are mourning his loss, on this Remembrance Day, no less. It was a beautiful end to a beautiful life. May he be an inspiration to aspiring poets everywhere, they are badly needed.
