The Big Thread of Marrige Equality Updates

Post-Prop 8:

- Iowa legalized gay marriage
- Vermont legalized gay marriage
- A gay marriage bill is currently in the New Hampshire legislature
- Sweden legalized gay marriage
- Connecticut legalized gay marriage
- New York and Washington D.C. recognize marriages from out-of-state/city

Also, Iowa Governor Chet Culver just reversed his previous decision to "do whatever it takes to protect heterosexual marriage" and now backs the Supreme Court's decision

 

I like what my son wrote on facebook today. He said that the states granting marriage equality just DOUBLED! Whoohoo!

 

Everybody should watch this. It's the speech by Majority Leader Gronstal on the Senate floor, blocking a Republican attempt at a constitutional amendment.

Even though the DC council voted to approve gay marriage, this will ultimately need to be approved by Congress.

GAY MARRIAGE ALLOWED IN VERMONT
Vermont became the fourth state in the nation to allow gay marriage yesterday. The state legislature voted to override a veto by Republican Governor Jim Douglas, who nixed a measure Monday that would allow same-sex marriages.
