Citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen have been banned from entering the US. Even those with green cards may not be able to return to the US. These permanent residents, many who have built their entire lives here, are being held back and not allowed to enter the US until they have received a waiver. If this isn't messed up, I don't know what is.

It's funny how none of the Middle Eastern countries where he has business ties were on the ban list.

Exactly. It's to keep "radical Islamic terrorists" out... But we haven't had a single terrorist attack from a citizen belonging to any one of those countries. Ironically enough, most of the 9/11 bombers were Saudi citizens. But of course Saudi Arabia isn't on that list since they have lots of money and lots of business negotiations with Trump.

Anything that Trump does is never about keeping America safe; it is all about enriching himself and his cronies.

And Iraq doesn't? It doesn't matter if the US has ties to Saudi Arabia without Trump. This ban doesn't make any sense. He's targeting these 7 countries to prevent "Islamic terrorists" from entering but no terrorists have come from any of those 7 countries.

I'm currently embarrassed to even be living in a country that shares a border with the US.

Ban was temporarily lifted as of 9pm after an entire day of priotests at the airports.

I believe this only applies to people that were detained at the airports in the US. Meaning that the ban against citizens from any of the 7 countries listed is still on. Or am I mistaken?

I think you're correct. I believe it's applied to those with visas and refugees with authorization to seek asylum in the US, possibly only those who were detained. I am hearing some stories, unsure if they're valid, that people were being stopped from flying into the US if they are currently in one of the countries on the ban list.

Over 100 people were detained today and forced to be released by court order. It's unclear exactly what is going to happen, as it's not being discussed further until the end of the month. I believe there are a bunch of orgs that will probably be bucking up to take legal action over the ban as a whole now that it's being implemented, as it's deemed unconstitutional.

    Scary times.

It's far from hateful and long overdue. First and foremost, America has to be practical about protecting itself - especially in this age of borderless hate and discrimination.

I find it FAR more disturbing that you are concerned about non-American citizens first and foremost above your fellow citizens.

Certainly there are many potential refugees from other countries that deserve refuge from tyrannical or simply hostile governments in their current situation. President Trumps Executive Order simply puts a halt to the unmanageable process that is currently in place and asks the harder questions about how and when people should be let into the US as legal immigrants in the interest of US security. Why are you arguing with that?

No one was arguing. Just stating their thoughts.

There are many American citizens that are Muslim and are unfairly targeted because of this executive order. Most of us just want Muslims to be treated equally to others and want the Syrian refugees to not be forced to die with no escape. The majority of Muslims in the world have done nothing wrong and are being punished for something they haven't even done. It's like someone banning the USA because a person from Canada did something bad a few times. Banning Canada wouldn't even make sense because most Canadians are innocent.

The vetting process was already thorough and most violence happened from our own US citizens, not from immigrants or refugees.

I'm concerned about both American citizens and non-American citizens because they're all human beings. A Syrian child deserves a safe life just like a New Jersey kid does.

Totally fair, to a degree. However, this is a temporary ban initiated to ensure that proper, thorough vetting procedures are in place before admitting refugees into this country or designating new US citizens.

What do Canadians have to do with this Executive Order? Canada was not one of the seven countries named in the Executive Order.

How are Muslim American citizens being 'targeted' by President Trump's Executive Order?

It is NOT focused on Muslims, rather it is focused on protecting Americans from allowing Islamic extremists from entering this country. What is wrong with that?

The previous vetting process was NOT as thorough as it could be and there were many open loopholes which should be closed.

None of that is to say that the US can't or shouldn't continue to be a safe haven in the world, but American citizens also have a right to properly vet the people allowed into this country as new (or potentially new citizens) wouldn't you agree?

What makes you believe that improper vetting procedures were currently in place? Syrian refugees have had to go through extremely thorough examination processes before even allowed in this country, as our post 9/11 world has produced the highest security this country has ever seen?

A super quick Google search brings up many articles that explain the vetting process currently in place. Here's some info from Politifact:

What does Canada have to do with this? Interesting thoughts after what the poster said. I'm going to say, nothing. The poster seemed to be using that as an example of it being irrational to hate/fear everyone in Canada if one person happened to commit a heinous crime on US soil.

How are Muslim Americans being targeted by this? Really? Google can help you out with that one, too. Here's some key phrases you may want to put in:

    "Hate crimes against Muslim Americans."
"Hate crimes against Muslim Americans since mention of Muslim Registry/ban in US/Trump presidential campaign."

This does not focus on Muslims? Hmmm, but it's called a "Muslim Ban." Kind of sounds like it's about Muslims. What Muslims are trying to come into this country and were detained today, but later let go, for the most part? There are Syrian refugees, who have already gone through vetting processes, and people who have long standing Visas to live in this country/have families and lives here.

Yes, we all want to be safe from terrorism, which is actually committed most of the time in this country by white Christian males, or just males - statistically. Perhaps we should ban and vet all men until we come up with proper procedures to make sure they won't commit crimes against humanity. Idk, just an idea.

I think what we should be questioning here is, why now? And why just those countries? There are some obvious answers, but also some that are a little head scratch worthy. It is important to be vigilant, but again, it's really not that easy to get into this country.

As well, there haven't been any reports of refugees committing crimes or terrorist acts anywhere they've been taken in.

Though the country does have to be careful, it seems like it's pretty careful already, and that this act may have been used to create chaos to cover up other things going on in the administration, and some pretty old ideas that don't fit the current climate.

So, um, maybe trying to come from a good place? But also, maybe not. And also, pretty unconstitutional. And also, not very American. And...a little too much too late? Idk, though.

    ---------- Post added 29th Jan 2017 at 03:35 AM ----------

Also, when the majority of the free world is utterly horrified by the actions of a nation, maybe it's for a reason. Again, Idk... just thoughts.
