(02-07) 04:00 PDT New York -- Roy and Silo, two chinstrap penguins at the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan, are completely devoted to each other. For nearly six years now, they have been inseparable. They exhibit what in penguin parlance is called "ecstatic behavior": That is, they entwine their necks, they vocalize to each other, they have sex. Silo and Roy are, to anthropomorphize a bit, gay penguins.

When offered female companionship, they have adamantly refused it. And the females aren't interested in them, either.

At one time, the two seemed so desperate to incubate an egg together that they put a rock in their nest and sat on it, keeping it warm in the folds of their abdomens, said their chief keeper, Rob Gramzay. Finally, he gave them a fertile egg that needed care to hatch. Things went perfectly, and a chick, Tango, was born.

For the next 2 1/2 months they raised Tango, keeping her warm and feeding her food from their beaks until she could go out into the world on her own. Gramzay is full of praise. "They did a great job," he said.

There's more but its not exactly about the penguins... Though if you wanna read it

That's so cute. I had heard about these two a while back, but I had no idea they had raised a chick together! Hahaha is the chick gay? If not, we could use this in the argument that life partners could affect the sexual orientation of their children! j/k.

There have been alot of documented cases of homosexual behaviour exhibited by animals in the wild, for example under dolphins, monkeys and penguins- just to name a few. So next time somebody tells you being gay is a choice and unnatural, tell them to go fuck themselves, and if you really want to, you can tell them about pink animals!

    I. Hate. That.
People think it's a "life style choice", like going into further education or getting a job. No it freaking isn't. I know I didn't have a choice about who I liked, I just am like this. A lot of straight people seem to grasp the concept that they are just born straight, it's not that they made that choice - and we're the same! I certainly haven't made the choice, and considering the society we live in, sometimes I wish I was juist straight - it'd be so much easier. But, it doesn't work like a choice ¬_¬

That is so cute! I knew that these penguins looked familiar, they have even made international fame over the relationship.
