Final Debate in the House is going on to expand federally definition of hate crimes to include gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered focused violence. It looks like it will pass.
It has passed the House with 249-175 votes. The Senate must now vote on it, President Obama has said he will sign it when it comes to his desk into law.
Woot! I totally called my rep about that one. ... He's a republican from Texas, so he probably still went 'nay' unless he's less douchey than I am led to believe, but hey. I spoke up. I'm glad this bill seems to be doing well
Great news! I doubt that it will have any problems passing the Senate. My beloved representative Steve King had this to say, "This hate crimes bill is actually a bill to control our thoughts." He obvoiusly voted against it.
I find it hard to believe why someone would think attacking and harming someone on the basis of their sexuality should not be considered a hate crime, because it was a crime commited because of hate. It is beyond me how some minds work. If these republicans were true chirstians, they would realize something. jesus's ministry was one of compassion and humanity. hate crimes are the antithesis of that. That, and jesus rejects leviticus, and never actually once speaks out against homosexuality once in the biblical canon. he spoke out against the jewish leviticus holiness code saying it divides gods children, and is harmful to gods wish for a community of compassion, love, and unity.
how is making attacking someone on the basis of hatred thought control... if anything, it is controlling immoral actions that damage societie, and take away the rights of others to have the right to live a life safe from assult and violence. It seems this mr. king needs to be attacked for being a bigot, and if he complains, just say "sorry, but you cant apply hate crimes to this, because then you are practicing thought control."
Rock on dude, dunno about the laws in england have to look that one up but whoopie for you guys and gals!!!!!!!!!!!(!)(!)(!)
