    ABC/WaPo Poll

According to this ABC/Washington Post poll released today, 49 percent of Americans support gay marriage, while 46 percent are opposed.

This is the first poll ever to show the majority supports marriage equality. It is huge news! I know that this is just one poll, but it shows just how quickly marriage equality is gaining support here in the US.

Eventually Texas as well as the central US states will join on marriage equality, it may be many years off, but eventually.

It's really nice to see the change. Now if only the aforementioned states would stop being so...crappy about it

Too bad that most of that 46% who were opposed comes from California. XD Darn Prop 8!

Um, 49 percent isn't a "majority", although they would have "won" this poll.

that definitely is a good thing but there still is a lot of work to be done. even though it may say 49%, in california before prop 8, polls indicated over 50% approval of gay marriage but it still got shot down :/

Thats cause it was voter turnout, those who supported it are probably less likely to vote then those who oppose it. Also, the Mormon church pretty much had members resettle just to shoot down the bill.

You're right. Should have said 'plurality'.

It will be interesting to see if any other polls come out with similar results, or if this one is just an outlier.
