As a part of a Government class last year, I was instructed to create my own political party, with at least 5 "planks" in its platform. This year, I decided to take a more active role in politics, and decided to attempt to create my own political party. These are the planks from my party, Global Unity. If you have questions on other views, just ask. Legalization of Drugs The Global Unity Party will work to legalize all “recreational” drugs, primarily for the purpose of taxation by the national government. However, due to the addictive nature of some of these drugs, a national program will be established to carefully monitor the distribution of these drugs. Also, hospitals will be required to hire individuals capable of treating these drug addictions. Outsourcing Due to the massive amount of employment currently being transferred out of America, the Global Unity Party will work to establish a major tax increase on those companies who outsource a majority of their labor as a means of encouraging them to return labor to America. On a similar note, we will also offer tax reductions to those countries that currently do not outsource a majority of their labor to foreign countries. Same-Sex Marriage The Global Unity Party is strongly for the legalization of same-sex marriage for the following reasons: Denying same-sex couples the right to marry is a violation of religious freedom. Denying them is a form of minority discrimination. Marriage of any kind encourages strong family values, thus reducing high-risk behaviour. International Policy As a means of fostering global pacifism, the Global Unity Party will work with the UN to remove Communist governments from the planet. Furthermore, we will then partner with the EU, AU, and other such international unions to develop a world government, whereby each country in the world, in addition to their national leaders, would elect a representative to a World Counsel, whose main function would be to uphold peace in the world. Environmental Protection Considering the current state of the planet, and the rate by which our planet is being destroyed by our own hands, the Global Unity Party will use the money saved with our welfare reforms to fund the establishment of the Worldwide Administration for Spatial Progression (WASP), an organization dedicated to space exploration and, more importantly, finding planets suitable for human inhabitation and developing the technology to travel to these planets that are currently beyond our reach. Welfare Due to the amount of people in this country that are getting financial aid from the government, but are not actively pursuing a job, the Global Unity Party would reform the welfare system to allow benefits to be given only to those who are actively seeking employment. Also, programs will be implemented to train those without jobs to enable a smooth transition into the workforce.
Fair enough. You make good points. But this reminds me of the project I did in highschool. We also had to make a political party and I had been assigned to work with a group of people who were, for lack of a better term, umotivated. Being the over-acheiver I am, I decided to take on the full project with the help of a friend in another class. I was not going to let these slackers mess up my final grade. There was one fellow in particular who wasn't very... intelligent. Since I figured he would have to contribute in some way, I gave him the task of inventing the name of our party. A week passed and I was making my final touches to the poster and video presentation. I figured I couldn't put it off any longer and I ask him, "What's the name you came up with?" "Well, I've been thinking about this for awhile now. I'm sure you'll love it." "What is it, Johnny?" "The SUP." "The what?" "The SUP! It stands for Straight-Up Party. You know, because we won't lie like most politicians." "..." "Isn't it great?" "..." "Straight up!"
Global Unity Party, yet very United States centric views. Anyhow, my view on outsourcing of the following: Companies usually outsource to countries where the labour is cheap because they can get away with gross violations in the areas of human rights, environmental, product safety, and intellectual property. So countries with poor records in those fields, charge stiff import duties. That will level the playing field. Also charge stiff import duties to counties that themselves make it difficult to export manufactured goods into their country. Interestingly someone I know lost their job. While looking for another skilled job, they considered getting a minimum wage job. EI paid more than they could make working minimum wage.
The United States has been trying to do that for 60 years, not much luck so far. Hell we had to hock the entire country in order to cause the collapse of the Soviet Union. Not to mention what right do we have to these countries what economic model they must follow. You claim welfare reform to be the cure to our finical problems. I suggest you actually take a look the United State Federal Budget. Here is the Fiscal Year 2008 budget tables. http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy09/pdf/budget/tables.pdf Total enacted budget was 941.4 Billion Dollars allocated to a total of 25 agencies. Of that 479.5 Billion or 51% was allocated to Defense. The other 49% is divided among the remaining 24 agencies. While I agree that welfare needs some reforms, it is not the panacea that you and most conservatives paint it to be. You also don't present a plan for moving forward with your goals. If you are serious about establishing your party you have a lot of work ahead of you.
What I also don't understand about the United State's treatment of communist countries is that it's very hypocritical. For decades there were huge travel and trade restrictions with a small communist island a hundred miles from its coast. Meanwhile one of the United State's largest trading partners is a communist country that is the world's most populated country. The country also ignores any environmental, human rights, and intellectual property standards, and now essentially owns the USA in the form of buying the USA's debt.
Communist =/= evil. It won't ever work, and every country should decide their own values for themselves. The United States shouldn't intervene in other countries own affairs. I mean, look at China, they're Communist, and they're doing a hell of a lot better than the United States at this point in time. Just my 2 cents.
Fixed it for you. Communism, when you boil it down, is the opposite of freedom. The state is in complete control even when there isn't a dictatorship. I'll stick to my life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
Hey, I don't like communism, in fact, when it comes down to it, I'm slightly right of centre. However, I disagree with intervening. China's rural poor are also becoming less and less despite their low "ridiculous cheap labour" (250 million in 1985 to 21 million in 2007 iirc) I wouldn't want to live in China, and I am extremely happy with capitalism, but I don't think we should change other countries into a model that works in the United States. I mean, Western-style democracies have failed in Afghanistan and Iraq, so what right does the United States have to impose their values on others? That's right, none.
I'm afraid you haven't got my vote. You do have a few good ideas, but I don't agree with the anti-outsourcing, that's protectionism and if it's one world than why does it matter? Also, it defeats the purpose of the WTO and NAFTA. Also, I don't like the idea of world government. We have WAY too much bureaucracy as it is. That being said, I'm all for giving the UN real military power and real judicial power.
Ooh. But that's because of dogma. It has nothing do with whether or not the United States has a better government/society (which they do). And I am tired of this absolute nonsense about "imposing values". We are not imposing values. We are fucking taking over. Imperialism hasn't died; it's just gotten a face lift. Why do we have to play nicely when they are fucking themselves over? Because "We shouldn't intervene?" I'm certain that if countries had backed the U.S.A instead of jerking around (I'm looking at you, France), this war would be over and done with. And I'm sorry, but even if they don't realize it, they are in the Middle Ages. That's a shit way to be living. Quite frankly, if it takes an asskickin' to show them that freedom and equality are good things, so be it. Like North Korea is sitting up high on it's britches right now because they tested some missiles. Big whoopdee frickin' doo. Even if they are batshit insane enough to attack the U.S.A, they would be blown out. Ugh. Maybe I just don't like sitting back and watching people destroy themselves with ridiculous governments based on corruption and thousand year old religious texts (or Dear Leaders).
By sending off all of the United States manufacturing capacity, and money to China you are getting involved, condoning the current situation. And I guess it depends on how you define "works in the United States". The USA is at the centre of the economy melting with the government 11 trillion dollars in debt, and having one of the highest levels of personal debt, bankruptcy, etc. And China is the largest creditor, owning 24% of the US's debt.
ill support your party if youll let me have weapons XD and put me in charge of the top secret science tech magic alien immortality stuff when we get in power XD
I should mention to the original poster, blackpoe66, that although it may look like we're tearing apart your platform, I think it's fantastic that you have an interest in politics. By its very nature politics is a very complex beast, with many different opinions, and factors that have to be examined. There is no one true "right answer". The above is just "food for thought" if you will.
" International Policy As a means of fostering global pacifism, the Global Unity Party will work with the UN to remove Communist governments from the planet. Paragraph one stated here: Remember the 50s? Did it work, no! Communism is shown to work in small groups of people, however not whole countries, would you completely wipe out these peace loving people (usually hippie pacifists anyway) for no reason? Moreover, how are you intending to enforce this rule, America not ruling the world yet (thank god!)? In the 50s people were "Blacklisted", their passports taken away and they would be jailed and fined; it did not work, again I say it. And more to the point is this not a breaking of rights? You state in your 5 "planks" that: "Denying same-sex couples the right to marry is a violation of religious freedom" is not allowing groups who are communists to live in their chosen society not also an "off branch" of this? Paragraph two stated here: So you are not going to try to stop the earth from being destroyed? I am sorry this is so racist of me but it is a very American view; “it is ok we can ruin it, we can get another!” (Sorry EC and OP) Why pour all your funds into finding somewhere else for “us” to ruin and have to start the whole process off all over again rather than using the money to save this planet and maintaining it much cheaper I can assure you! There are huge, vast areas of land such as the mass of deserts this world supports, why not use the “space” (excuse the pun) to our advantage? Solar energy in the desert would work quite well, wind farms (obviously new designs to cope with these different conditions would be needed). Apart from this I like it; the drugs policy is proven to work in Amsterdam (although I suggest compulsory screening of amnitures for all people, perhaps a drug “licence” would be needed which would cost as much as the medical examination. The idea being only those who are at ALARA risk levels would be allowed a licence. Nice! Change a few things and I am right there with you. (oh and America could not rule this, it would have to be the world counsel as you stated that would run it.) And no one power system controlling the world is likely to work so it would have to be broken down into sectors, then each sector would have a few “representative” representatives at the counsel.
Wow, you're gone for a week, and look what happens? Where to begin... Well, for starters, I would like to clarify that, although my first plank seemed anti-communist, I myself am not. I believe the system itself can be very useful to some developing countries; however, most rulers of communist governments tend to become tyrants, mostly because of the incredible power that that kind of government gives them. Thus I believe that, while the governments themselves should stay, the leaders of those governments would need replaced, preferably with someone that would be unlikely to become power-hungry. Also, in regard to the planet: yes, I would love to see it be preserved; however, in my mind, this planet's been damaged to the point that any attempt to fix it would be like putting a bandage over a stab wound; it makes it look better, but doesn't do anything to actually fix the problem. Thus my belief that a new planet would be the best bet for the survival of the human race. As for the anti-outsourcing: while I believe that most countries (with the exception of those who are still in the process of developing financially and economically) should stay within their borders from a manufacturing point of view, I do not believe that all countries should cut off trade with others. I fully support international trade, but on a strictly need-based system. I personally feel that, had the United States had limited trade to what we truly needed, and, as they taught all of us who took Economics, exported more and imported less, our country would be in a much better state economically speaking.
