Recently there has been some talk about the hate organization "Americans for Truth About Homosexuality" in this section. So I decided to write them a letter of my own. I will put a few disclaimers on it in that I know that many ECers do not agree with the religion expressed in it. Honestly, the reason I wrote it so heavily with that stuff is that I figured I might be taken a little more seriously if I gave them a taste of their own medicine, I'm actually not a huge scripture person.

I know it's a little long, but I think it's worth it. I am going to email it tomorrow after I edit it some- it is very late and I don't think I trust myself when I am this tired.

Man, that part really hit home.
This letter is amazingly written. Well done.

Please be sure to re-post their response if you can, I want to know what they have to say to this.

Absolutely damn pointless to give these people attention. How many letters you think they received? Guess how much they care?

^ I suppose I wouldn't be surprised if they lost interest as soon as they read "we have very differing opinions", but hey at some point they have to realize that we are not going down without a fight.

This letter is an exemplary piece that may fall on deaf ears, but at least it shows we're still trying. Better than staying quiet and submissive, in my honest opinion.

That was extremely well put. I applaud your effort. and whether or not they reply doing something is better than nothing.

I am fully aware I am not about to change anyone's mind here. But I guess I wrote it mostly because I want to see the response because I have never seen anyone write them a letter not screaming about how atheist they are, which, while it is a valid standpoint, is not really the way to get them to take anything else you say at all seriously. Sometimes you have to play at people's own game, so I went religious on it to see the reaction.

Also, as someone who has been reading the letters they have gotten for a few days, I figure it might help out some poor questioning kid getting brainwashed by this crap.

I used to think that but then I thought ... if everyone thought like that we'd all still be 'in the closet', with a 'precautionary' wife/husband/children, hiding our sexuality for fear of being thrown in jail or worse by a society that still widely believed homosexuality immoral/illegal.

For that to change someone had to stand up against an attitude that it seemed futile, at the time, to try to resist, right?

That was a very well written letter

While part of me is inclined to agree with you, that letter was exceptionally good and I can only hope that you get a positive response from them, although I fear it shall make no difference whatsoever.

Good luck, for the good of all of us (*hug*).

    I agree. I am wondering 2 things
1)how long did it take you to write this?
2)why can't I write that good for the writing prompts in school?

BTW:hope they reply to your letter and if they do please post it

I think the reason it's so well written is because the topic is something she's extremely passionate about and not some silly unimportant safe school prompt
    I hate those

I remember for this one benchmark I had about a month before school ended; I couldn't come up with anything to write for the prompt
It was something like "write about a time where you learned from an experience" It was lamer themn that though.
So I didn't write anything I just wasted time til the end of class
I was supposed to come in for tutorials either in the morning or afternoon soon to finish it
But I just kept saying that I couldn't get a ride or had prior engagements
    And never did it.

    But right, back on topic.

    I loved the letter
    It was amazing
I hope they read it through
And I hope it's message really sinks in
And I hope they realize how severely fucked up they are (s'cuse my french)

    Thank you for writing that

I think you should send it to all places like this (maybe edit the thing about reading through the website and such to fit who your sending it to)
    Maybe send it to WBC
Or... I don't know many of the other ones but I'm sure you could find them

    20-25ish minutes (at 3 am)

    Practice? It really helps.

My trick with writing prompts is to either BS til you drop, or turn it into something you like. A few years ago I had a standardized prompt along the lines of "Choose a guest speaker to come to your school and write a letter to your principal explaining why this person should come." Knowing none of *my* teachers would ever read it, I wrote about Harvey Milk (this was before the movie "Milk" when very few straight people really knew who he was.) I got advanced on it. You write better when you know your subject matter and feel passionate about your subject.

That's an amazing letter. I don't know if it'll get a response, but at least we're doing something. Thanks for writing it!

omg.. this letter was just SO great!
the way you managed to express your thoughts was just amazing!!
I'm really looking forward to their reply, though honestly, i don't expect them to answer.. and IF they do answer, it will be written with such a hate because you managed to raise your voice against them..

well done, may I say
