    is it illegal for a forum ran by people - not a large business. to ban me for being gay?

    the story:

    the forum was a spin-off from a game when a large amount of members were banned for spam, that forum then found out that i was (and still am) gay, this lead to my bannage because there was already a gay guy and 'we can't have two gay guys or else people'll be having sex everywhere and itll be bad'

    kinda hypocritical seen-as the person who banned me, also the admin, got kicked from the game for posting porn 0.o


    so is it illegal or just not nice?

    im sure it would be discrimination and unfair dissmiasal but your not workign for them, i would say jsut them beeing asses and move on with your life, if a community is like that why would y ou want to be part of it? your better than that :slight_smile:

    Depends on where they're based. But in most western cultures that's generally put under discrimination.

    It's probably not illegal, but they do sound like utter dickheads, so stay away anyways.

    It's the internet.
    I'm pretty sure on that alone you do not have a case.

    It sucks that they are so unaccepting, but the internet has no rules (not concerning this anyways).

    I don't think its illegal. It's the internet and almost anything goes on the internet. It was however horrible of them to do and I'm sorry you were banned.

    If it's a discussion community such as this one, there is no expectation of free speech, at least in the US. Discussion communities are considered private and can choose who they do or don't want to participate in their community.

    Sucks but... if they feel that way, they probably aren't the people you want to be around anyway :slight_smile:

    I agree it's not nice. Not illegal tho - its like that church kicking people off their property for gay people kissing. Not nice, dick move, but not illegal.

    Their playground, their rules. They can ban you for being gay, being not gay, being too talkative, not talkative enough, or because they felt like banning somebody that day.

    Although there's some perverted logic in "we're banning you because you're gay, and we already have a gay guy here". I mean, why let the other gay guy stay?

    You would have had to agree to their terms when you joined the forum, and a normal one is that they have discretion to ban anyone for whatever they like. Also, courts are apparently wary of claiming legal jurisdiction over internet sites. So, no, probably not illegal.
