Tomorrow is the big day in Maine. It could be the first time in US history that a state allows same-sex marriage following a vote of the people. Things seem to look good for our side, but we thought the same thing about California last year. It'll be close, but I'm confident that Mainers will make the right choice:slight_smile:

Another minor tidbit; the deputy sheriff running for mayor in my home town happens to be a lesbian. It would be amazing for her to get elected in such a small, very conservative town. But judging by the yard signs, I think she has a great chance to win.

Tomorrow is the big day tomorrow. Maine will hopefully vote no 1, Washington: yes on 71 and re-election of Jon Corzine in New Jersey (he is pro-gay marriage, where Christie is against it and said he'd veto any gay marriage legislation that would land on his desk).

I think irregardless of what happens tomorrow its a step in the right direction. "Remember, evolution is slow, smallpox is fast, we're not quite there yet folks" -George Carlin :icon_bigg

People fight tooth and nail to delay what they know to be inevitable, silly social conservatives :eusa_doh:

I give it only a few years before gay marriage is legal throughout the country, as well as possessing at least small amounts of marijuana. I'm never wrong!

    the two words are

    regardless
    and
    irrespective

they often get melded into irregardless, which isn't a word. a lecturer at my uni does it all the time.

Bangor Daily News has the results as they come in. With 51 votes reported, we have a 45-6 lead:slight_smile::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I can't believe I am staying awake to watch this. I have a lecture tomorrow morning. >.<

Any idea how long it usually takes to get results out? Tis starting to get late here and only 2 of 605 precincts are reporting. >.<

I think it could take a couple of hours. Many of the towns in Maine are small. They may be using paper ballots.

i think they close at 8pm. if you are in line when they close, you still get to vote.

is 62/37 right now in support of marriage equality. i was 61/38 a few minutes ago so it is closing, but hopefully, maine will further prove their live-and-let-live approach.
