... Now they need to find 700,000 signatures before the deadline, to make it actually become a proposition.

TLDR; Since Prop 8 and similar things are all supported because they want to "protect the sanctity of marriage", some people decided to further this. They want to expand it to prevent people from being able to Divorce, since that goes against the very idea of Marriage in the first place.

I'm not quite sure WHAT I think of this, to be honest. (I thought it was a joke/spoof at first, but apparently it's a serious thing) Others opinions?

I love this guy!! To me, it seems like he's making a parody of Prop 8, but not necessarily a funny one: really, if they're so pro-marriage, why not help the Republicans along? If it passes, someone will come around and protest against it, which means double the support to remove Prop 8 because they are, essentially, standing for the same cause. Same goes for if it doesn't pass. I think it's brilliant!

The government needs to get out of the marriage business altogether. Everyone, gay or straight, should only receive civil unions from the government. If people want to get married, then they can go to their church, mosque, synagogue, or temple and have a marriage ceremony performed according to their religion. This seems the most practical to me: everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, but those who wish to preserve some idea of "sanctity" to their unions can have their own religious marriages.

That really doesn't sound like too bad of an idea, too bad there won't be enough people to ever agree on it.

Btw, This Marriage Protection Act thing won't ever pass, there are too many people who seek that "horrible sense of liberation" xD, Too many people who cheat on their spouses, and too many people who like to screw people over for money. 90% (if not all) of those people in that video are liars xD Plus, they could've at least got a good sound editor, did you hear how loud that first voice was!? xD

"Don't fix what isn't broken"?! Many, Many, Many Marriages are broken when they're still marriages, like my own parents'. Sure if it wasn't for my dad going off and cheating on my mom, and then deciding he wanted to be with her, we'd be a lot more financially well off, but in the end, It's probably better off.

From the rescuemarriage website: "“Divorce is unnatural like polyester, glasses and Twinkies…”" LOL

"Jesus still loves you if you get divorced — just not as much as before
Hell is eternal — just like your marriage was supposed to be"
Seriously, this group of people is just the not as obvious version of the WBC

Oh, and for the record, I don't like divorce. It shouldn't be used, but it is, and in some cases, is needed. But that's the choice of the couple, not the government.

I would so buy one of those "Til Death Do Us Part? But You're Not Dead Yet!" shirts in a heartbeat, lol. I was actually discussing this very thing on a youtube Prop 8 musical video (you know, the big musical with Margaret Cho, Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris, etc.) basically said that marriage is not a Christian/religious institution (we recognize Mormon marriages, Buddhist marriages, Hindu marriages, Islamic marriages, Atheist marriages, etc.... but if you believe only in Christianity then you would have to surmise that all other marriages were before false gods and therefore false marriages), that marriage is about legal rights and love, not raising a family (otherwise we would ban single-parent households, elderly couples, and infertile couples), and that the true threat to the "sanctity of marriage" is not gay marriage. It's divorce. Gay marriage doesn't destroy marriage as an institution, it adds to it. Literally. It adds another marriage to the tally. However, divorce removes marriages and makes the contract within a marriage seem worthless. Therefore, those who wanted to vote Yes on Prop 8 should also ban divorce to preserve marriage as a holy institution. Even in the Bible, divorce was only lawful if the wife was guilty of adultery, and in all other cases it was an abomination, which is why King Henry VIII had to actually break away from the Holy Roman Church and form the Church of England in order to make his divorces legal. So anyone in this day and age who thinks that divorce is fine clearly hasn't read either the Bible or the history books.

Yeah, the Bible makes it perfectly clear in numerous throughout the New Testament that divorce and remarriage is the equivalent of committing adultery. I hope all of the Christians voting against gay unions are observing this commandment....

(For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother (and be joined to his wife), and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." In the house the disciples again questioned him about this. He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.") - Mark 10:7-12

Of course...I am sure it is clear that when Paul (Jesus doesn't even comment on homosexuality) comments on homosexuals, he means EXACTLY what we have translated it to say...no exceptions. However, when Jesus says numerous times divorce and remarriage is adultery, plain and simple...well...he really didn't mean that exactly....

^ Well said... too bad most of these so-called "Christians" just seem to only read and quote passages of the Bible that are convenient for them to further their own bigoted cause.

This is the stance i have taken over the last few months. I say civil unions for everyone. Then if they also want to have a ceremony based on their religion then they can do that on top.

I think it is a good counter protest. It wont pass, but it will reveal the unchirstianness of so-called-christians who voted prop8.

This is amazing. I hope they get enough signatures to get it on the ballot.

There is no way it would pass, but it does an excellent job of making a point.

It seems a lot like a spoof to me. That video was way too lulzworthy to be serious.

As for the thing itself, if he doesn't get the signatures, it exposes the hypocrisy of those that supported Prop 8, if he does, then there will be mass uproar and people will fight for the right to divorce and essentially be "on our side".

As for what I think of divorce, I think people do rush into marriages, they fall out of love or something comes between them. My parents divorced; they say they don't regret getting married to each other, but they fell out of love and are much happier. It happens.

I'm hoping so much this guy isn't serious.
But, maybe he's a gay activist trying to prove something? Hmm? Undercover, of course.

I think it's hilarious. I kinda hope this is serious. At least it'll expose those hypocrites, and add some fuel to our fire.

the video is hilarious. It sounds like it's a joke.
in terms of Prop 8, I don't understand how is it fair that majority gets to decide for the minority right.
I do agree that some divorces are for the best, what if guy is abusing his wife. does that mean she is stuck with him forever????
