Profesional hockey coaches son comes out of the closet. Pretty good article, and a happy ending. Kind of has similarities for me with work due to working away for a couple of weeks at a time with all guys, and having to keep that one thing secret which inevitably stops you getting close with people. (or not being awkward at times)

Great story, but WHY ON EARTH did the author write it in that strange second-person style? Served absolutely no purpose, and distracted from an otherwise extremely powerful story.

I'm almost tempted to go through and rewrite the damn thing in 3rd person so it will be easier to read and comperhend.

Agreed, though its a great story, the style of writing makes it kind of disjointed and slightly confusing.

That is a great story! I'm glad ESPN published the piece.

I think the writer was trying to put the in Brendan's shoes. I do agree that it made the story awkward to read.

It is nice that everyone was so accepting, especially his father.

I can't imagine what it would be like to have you dad call and ask if you want go to the Pride parade. Ever since I told my parents it hasn't been mentioned once.

It's a great story. It's great that everyone is so supportive of Brendan Burke. Hopefully this story will inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

"Middle school and early high school is the first time I remember thinking that I could be gay, but I definitely tried to ignore it and didn't want to seriously consider it. It's pretty easy to try and convince yourself that it's not true, but it won't work, ever." -- Brendan Burke

That is quite awesome. I wish him well. I wish all families could be like that. Maybe one day they will be.

I loved this story. I'm an ice hockey fan, and on a forum that I post on, this story has only received almost 100% positive responses. Maybe the haters are being silenced there due to the pressure of political correctness, but still, I think it's great that so many hardcore hockey fans are openly posting so positively about this story.
