Amanda Simpson, who has served on NCTE's Board of Directors for the past three years, has been appointed by the Obama Administration as a Senior Technical Advisor to the Department of Commerce. She'll be working in the Bureau of Industry and Security.

“I'm truly honored to have received this appointment and am eager and excited about this opportunity that is before me,” said Simpson. “And at the same time, as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others.”

Great job, thank you for letting us know!

It's good to see the Government getting a wee bit more diverse.

Why should it be a issue though? Why should gender/transgenderisem matter?

congradulations, and hopefully this will get more people to realize that quality of work is not based on gender or a person, or sexuality of a person, or gender identity.

Though sadly, most people probably have no idea that we have met this milestone, nor will they learn about it. but it is a step nonetheless.

This is great! Two people I know through PFLAG were invited to the White House for a reception over the holidays. One works for PFLAG National and the other is transgender. I have hope we're going to get some important things passed this year including ENDA!
