As good as this is, Civil Partnerships aren't same-sex marriages. The Civil Partnership Bill was created to avoid the issue of terminology when it came to these ceremonies, so it's not accurate to say that these are viewed as same-sex marriages by the government. LGBT peeps have viewed them as that before, but legally speaking they are a seperate-but-equal institution (in theory).

Still, this is a pretty big step. This was one of the major inequalities still existing within the Civil Partnership Act, so this really does take us one step further to having marriage equality. I can't promise it will be anytime soon, but it's definetly going in that direction.

    Martin.

Well that is great to hear.

Anyway the views by Anglicans here in Australia are divided. Many are very liberal and are accepting of gays and support gay rights, however there are some that are outspoken and against gay rights and gay marriages including the archbiship of the Anglican church of Sydney Peter Jensen.

Well in the UK and USA even here in Australia the anglican churches have been increasingly to be acceptance of homosexuals of the church and it appears the anglican churches in Africa are still very conservative and would be very much against gay marriages or civil unions.
