So I just transfered from our Public Schools to a new private school. I just came out again to this school, and like twenty people told me about a place in the eight graders hall ways. I decided to go check it out. There was nobody in at the time, but I could see a sticker on the door saying "GLBT Youth Safe Spot" So now I'm gonna go tomorrow and see what goes on in there. I just thought it was super cool of them to put it in.

This is in a school, folks... and in Minnesota, which is pretty liberal. I'm sure it's legit.

Under California law (AB537), every public school in California HAS to provide an LGBT safe haven where students can go and talk to a knowledgeable staff member. Unfortunately, the loser Republicans and Mormons (of which we have a bunch in California) who are well connected in state government have been pulling out all the stops possible to drag their feet on actually providing the services required by the law. So the GSAs and LGBT community centers have been stepping in and training staff members and taking actions against principals that don't want to implement the program.

I don't know how many other states have simliar laws, but I wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota is one of them.

Most of Minnesota is liberal, and Duluth just happens to be one of those places. I think the whole of the north shore is fairly progressive-I've even seen a Pride flag on 61 near Grand Marais.

Anyway, definitely check it out and take full advantage of it. It's a good resource, and from the sounds of it, the student body is very accepting if so many people know about it and referred you to it. If you're at the school I think you're referring to, you might also be benefiting from the fact that it is no longer associated w/ any religion.

This isn't suspicious, some people seem to just be paranoid. Safe Spots are found all over now, so don't treat it all "oh I'm gonna get hurt" >_>
