An Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage last year created a situation never seen in the state – suddenly Iowa is a wedding destination.

That April 3, 2009, decision, followed weeks later by the issuing of marriage licenses, led to 1,783 weddings between same-sex couples by the end of the year. Of those, 1,044 of the couples were from outside Iowa.

Well I hope this helps their campaign for gay marriage to remain in Iowa. Not just that, it's good for their economy I'm sure...

He was using US spelling: "arganization"

Couples are two people, which means that there are still over 1400 gay people in Iowa alone, and only includes those old enough to marry, and only includes those willing to get married. Yay we're everywhere!

Iowa really is more advanced than other parts of the country when it comes to social equality. Today is the 1 year anniversary for the approval of same sex marriage. Woohoo!

One year later and the sky hasn't fallen, our crops haven't died, and life goes on. Crazy how that works.
