So, I seem to remember hearing that one of the big issues with the DSM-IV had something to do with how being trangender would be regarded by psychologists? Can anyone give me a primer on that? Was the point to make gender dysphoria a recognized condition, to remove it, or something else entirely? And what actually happened?

    Thanks!

Well, I don't know about the DSM-IV, but they're working on the DSM-5 to put out soon, and it does leave Transvestic Fetishism in as a disorder, only if it actually interferes with daily life. They also leave in gender identity disorders, and I don't know the real reason why, but by having it as a disorder it sometimes allows insurance to pay for reassignment surgery if they so wish.
