    france has had alot of tension with the vatican for centuries, which might explain why they were quick to issue a responce to the vaticans vile claims.

    If I remeber right, when corruption in the roman church grew too much, the french started selecting anti-popes to provide catholics with a alternative to the bought-and-sold papacy that the italian court had become.

    I'm pretty sure most of the "legitimate" (if you catch my drift) anti-popes ended over 600 years ago, so it's not really relevant. Back then, there were tons of really fucked up popes, like ones that'd have orgies in the Vatican and extreme nepotism and everything. That sorta thing... doesn't happen anymore. And hasn't happened for quite a long time. (Within the Papacy I mean.)
