    Day of Silence

So, just heard and learned of the fact that tomorrow is the Day of Silence.

It's an event held annually in April where students take a vow of silence to silence the bullying of sexuality prejudice.

Slightly surprised I haven't seen news of it yet on here, but maybe I didn't search it right.

You can find info at these links.

If I remember I'm gonna try, though it shouldn't be too hard since I rarely talk to anyone

If I'm in a class, and I don't understand something, I have to ask the question over staying silent; I don't want to face the possibility of getting something wrong on a test. While it's a good cause, it just doesn't seem logical [to me] for students.

It is a very very good cause as it raises awareness, but it seems more useful things/movements could be done. It doesn't make much sense to me to remain silent to promote something? But thats just me.

Well it doesn't have to be clear-cut. Some people have been saying just embrace the spirit of awareness, and i think they're right. You know?

    ----------

Ive heard several people bring this up. They came up with the idea of being extra loud on the DOS. Bringing the subject up and speaking your mind.

Myself, silence is actually already a huge part of my life. Yet, if I deliberately try to be quiet, I sometimes slip. I'll try, the idea is very appealing. This would be my first year.

Despite being a quiet person, I only stayed silent until lunch.

    National Day of Silence (4/16/10)

Today was the National Day of Silence for the rights of gay, bisexual, and transgendered people.

Was anyone quiet? I was. It was difficult. Hurt my throat lol.

I was quiet in my Calculus class, but I had to break my silence for the sake of my lab class. Damn that class and its necessity of communication.

Today was senior skip day. I nor any other seniors went to school. Therefore, there wasn't much point in me trying to participate, so I didn't :frowning2:

I remember last year though. I wore a piece of paper over my shirt with the details of DoS printed on it. People were generally accepting and some even decided to join in (though when I reminded a few of them they still had to talk when called on by a teacher, they gave up).

Ended badly when someone looked at it then tore it off my chest and ripped it to shreds. I looked at him for a moment, then took out a spare I had for this kind of occasion. We haven't spoken much since then. He used to be one of my best friends.

The National Day of Silence always falls during my school's spring break (a coincidence, I hope), but the GSA always organizes our school's own day of silence. Seeing how I'm part of the GSA I'm kind of expected to participate, but even if I weren't, I still would.

I only stayed silent till my sixth period I tried to do it but I slipped up a couple of times And there were times where I just wanted to tell this one guy off because he was being a total jerk about me being bisexual as if I don't get that from my mom
