One-half of the Malawian couple who were imprisoned for marrying and then pardoned last week by President Bingu wa Mutharika is missing, according to the Zambia Watchdog.

Tiwonge Chimbalanga, known affectionately by his friends and family as "Aunt Tiwo," went missing shortly after being released from prison Saturday night and has not been seen since, according to sources. One can only hope that Tiwonge is being hidden and protected by his family, has found a safe house, or has fled the country and is working on securing asylum in a place where he and Steven Monjeza can soon be reunited.

Tiwonge and Steven were both serving sentences of 14 years hard labor before President Bingu pardoned them on "humanitarian grounds". However, the couple were warned that if they continue their relationship, they will be rearrested, since homosexuality remains a crime in the sub-Saharan nation.

Prison authorities claim they dropped off Tiwonge at his home village Saturday night. But his uncle, who is head of the village, says Tiwonge has not been seen. His brother-in-law, who works at Malawi's High Court, says he has also not seen Tiwonge since his release, but said he "knew" it was Tiwonge's intent to leave Malawi...

oh no i feared this would happen i really hope that hes alright...but i say we assume he isnt and the un takes action...when will we just say no... we invade countries for oil but we just write a letter when men are murdered for loving another man ... >.>
