fter coming out as a gay student without incident in 2009 during his junior year at Valders High School, Gregg Udulutch says he was taunted on campus throughout his senior year and received telephone death threats at home.

When he repeatedly reported the taunting, school officials promised to investigate, but the harassment continued.

When Udulutch reported the April death threats to law enforcement authorities, the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department investigated and the local police chief visited the campus to meet with him.

According to the teen, Chief William Riesterer put the threatening calls in the same category as toilet-papering a house. Riesterer yelled at him, called him a liar and told him the harassment is all normal high school stuff and that Udulutch needed to grow up and get over it.

Udulutch said he tried to go back to class after talking with Riesterer, but "I kept breaking down during classes and crying."

Contacted by the Herald Times Reporter, Riesterer said the school and the Sheriff's Department were aware of the situation and were investigating.

"This is not, in my opinion, a newsworthy story," Riesterer said.

In response to the harassment:

# Udulutch and other students asked the harassing students to stop and reported the harassment to school officials, but the bullying continued, according to Brianna Brennan, who just finished her junior year at Valders.

# Superintendent Deb Hunt said a formal investigation by the school district's complaint coordinator was initiated in April. She guaranteed administrators "acted quickly and appropriately with each (complaint)" and "were following the rules as set forth."

# Hunt clarified later, telling the HTR she actually didn't have knowledge of the steps taken but trusts her administrators and believes they would have acted appropriately.

# Hunt declined the HTR's requests for information about any action taken against students; Brennan said she is not aware of any discipline having taken place...

OMG this is just by far one of the dumbest things in the world. I want to punch the cop in the face, and the Principal or w/e I want to slap her upside the face. UGH what is WRONG with these people?!
