these country's really sicken me... Dubai especially in its own way as it trys to put a public face on of being western and civilised a playground for the wealthy westerners etc etc...they show tolerance if you can afford it but underneath is the harsh uncaring disgusting views.

 

Saddens me...but the dude deserved it having the porn in a place he knew he can't have that sort of material...but it's more the fault of Dubai for having such Effed up rules...

 

I find it ironic that conservatives here in the states are always decrying shahria law, and muslim countries, but want to enact the same kind of laws. look at texas gop wanting to renact sodomy laws.

The fact of the matter that no matter where you go (even canada), you will face homophobia.

Thankfully Dubai is much more developed than most of the Middle East, and the Western Influence has really helped. 3 years is nothing compared to the majority of punishments other countries give homosexuals in the Middle East. They've progressed quite a bit.

 

I would say canada is better then alot of places, but I still hear alot about people being hate crimed in parts of canada.

Although it is totally uncalled for I suppose 3 years isn't the most drastic sentence they've ever set for homosexuality at least...

As you should lol. There is homophobia here as with any place I have had to put up with it at school (although I knocked the girl and her bf out) but we get the last laugh

 

Dubai is so crowded and small and ugly .. ive been there and didnt like it .. i take Saudi Arabia over it any day.

i agree with hiki .. all these gay hate crimes in our countries (Arab countries) should have taught LGBT's something .. go do it somewhere else (like I plan to)

I'm going to stand up for Dubai speaking from 10 years of living there.

It's a little don't-ask-don't-tell. The queers live very happily and a little underground, only talking to people they trust about it, and not anybody else. They're not going to set mouse traps for gays to pick 'em out like nits and eradicate them. As long as they don't know, you're fine.

This guy was probably an idiot. I mean, appearing gay in pornographic pictures really isn't the smart thing to do if you want to go places like Dubai. I'm not saying Dubai were right - they're not - but the guy could have probably avoided being arrested if he was a bit more careful.

 

Well if you read the local paper for Dubai 7Days he has been freed - sentence was cut to just a year and he has already served that... But again why would you put yourself in harms way so much when living in such a place - as heatqueen says dubai is generally a don't ask don't tell type of place anything goes as long as you dont rub it in there faces..
