perhaps underlying social issues are stopping people openly getting married, or same sex couples in Portugal either have gone so long without marriage are in no rush for it or either just don't see the point in a piece of paper as it wont add anything to their relationship as far as they are concerned they still love each other ...

or perhaps have waited so long and have a higher degree of respect for marriage so aren't rushing into it.

whatever the cause its not right to see it as a failure as people aren't jumping to get married as its not a film at the cinema trying to break blockbuster records and bring in a shed load of cash its a civil right to all people and people should be able to use it as and when they see fit doesn't matter if a million get married the 1 year and non the next 5.

also we are a minority so i hope they don't ever try comparing the marriage statistics for straight couples to us as it will always will look bad on us. which is wrong.

well i think its good in some ways. people think giving us our rights will spark some revolution but in fact nothing much will change at least nothing really noticeable to the public.

Who cares. the right is there and if people don't choose to exercise it that is their decision.

I think i agree with Danielle, it doesn't matter that loads of couples arent getting married, the key thing is the right is now there. The fact that some have is beneficial though because if none had taken their right to get married the straights may have argued it was not necessary to grant the right in the 1st place.

I would guess a ton of couples had already got married in Spain, so that could explain some of it.
