It doesn't surprise me that this guy's from Russia. I barely understand how they can be so important in the world when they only came out of what was essentially the dark ages in the early 90's. They've come a long way, but they've still got a very, very long road ahead of them as far as social progress is concerned. And this guy isn't just part of a closed-minded, homophobic minority. It's unfortunate but a larger chunk than we think probably share his opinion. It's going to take a few generations before Russia catches up to the rest of the modern world.

I wouldn't say he's necessarily representative of all Russians, though. Most Russians I know are rather cosmopolitan in their attitudes...
