    A "gender-ratio" wtf?????

Gee, that doesn't sound homophobic. What reason could a club have for a gender-ratio, except to keep gays out?

Bars, clubs, and a number of other entertainment services with a predominately straight clientele, for demographic reasons, have very strong incentives to encourage something approximating gender parity. While there are people who go to such clubs for the drinks, food, or sheer entertainment, a sizable portion are there specifically for a social scene that involves trying to pick up a member of their preferred gender. Those places where there's a reputation for lacking variety may find themselves without clientele at all. Because of cultural issues and subculture demographic causes, bars usually find themselves erring to the side of not having enough women.

Most bars stick to merely applying incentives such as waiving door fees or reduced drink prices for women, to the point where "Ladies' Nights" are near-standard in the industry. Further down the rabbit hole, that's not enough itself, and certain groups (most notably swingers) often require people come attached in het pairings or not come at all.

Whether or not this is legal is a complex question, and one that it's not clear that it's a good idea for the GLT movement to push.

The guest list overrides this, of course, since there's an issue with breaking a reservation regardless of gender and sexuality matters.
