    Well, isn't that nice.

Nebraskans, in my opinion, are very acceping of LGBT people, but things like newspapers and businesses are a little slower to react.

It certainly gives me that warm feeling to know that this is happening.

    Don't be too comforted:

It said it would continue a policy of running announcements only for legal marriages — not civil unions or commitment ceremonies.

The Nebraska lesbian couple would still be out of luck, assuming they were having a commitment ceremony in Nebraska.

"It will continue to be just that. Celebrations announcements regarding legal weddings, engagements for legal weddings or anniversaries of a legal marriage will be welcomed, regardless of the genders of the couple. We will not run announcements regarding commitment ceremonies, partnerships and other non-marriage unions, again regardless of gender."

Omaha is right on the border between Nebraska and Iowa, so any gay couples in the area covered by the World-Herald can just make the quick drive over to Council Bluffs and get married. I mean, the Omaha World-Herald headquarters in downtown Omaha is literally half a mile from the Iowa border (ok, .6 miles according to GoogleMaps). It sucks that their home state won't recognize their marriage, but it's better than being stuck in somewhere like Georgia with nowhere close to go to get married. And it's a big step for a really conservative paper like the OWH.
