    surely this cant work...as if he is standing in then anything he does arnie can just say no to...and arnie is bound to of heard of all this by now and if this guy is filling in for him if i was arnie id be on the phone now saying i dont need you covering for me ill find someone better more reliable...

    who exactly is maladono, or however you spell it?

    the only people who have jurisdiction to defend prop 8 is the gov, at the time the court ase (in this case, the appeal court date) is filed, and the same with the attorney general. no one else has legal standing.

    Abel Maldonado is the Lieutenant Governor of California. I’m not sure about the laws of California but in many states the Lieutenant Governor has all the powers of the Governor whenever the Governor is out of state.

    I think mainly that is in time of crisis or emergency. I doubt the lieutenant gov. has the right to overstep the gov. authority in matters of legality of a law already deemed unconstitutiuonal.

    the court date in december is about if the original court case was valid. the appeal is to try to prove that it is not valid. you can only appeal a case on the basis that it did not fulfill legal protocal, and the judge/jury made a mistake.

    I don’t know the law in California but in many states the Lieutenant Governor assumes all the powers of the Governor whenever the Governor leaves the state; when Mitt Romney was Governor of Mass. He once had to rush back into the state in order to veto a bill the he opposed and the Lieutenant Governor supported.
