I don't understand a guy running for Homecoming Queen, gay or straight. It IS a woman's position, not one to be usurped by a guy claiming equality.

    agreed.

But what I think he wanted to do here was to make it that the school also elects a Homecoming King because he felt it discriminatory that males weren't allowed to be elected in the Homecoming Court while females could. He was trying to make a statement.

This is pretty much why, as in most places, Homecoming Kings are simply the date of the queen. The king isn't voted for, unlike what is shown on most TV shows :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

However, I still don't really agree with it. It's just people wanting attention.

Both the homecoming king and queen were elected by the student body at my high school.

link won't work for me but unless this person running identifies as female the idea of him running for the position is in my opinion stupid.

Yeah, it was kind of a silly thing to do. Not everything needs gender equality. There's nothing wrong with having a position that only guys or girls can fill. As long as the exclusion isn't because of hatred or bigotry, it's all good.

hmm. i wouldn't have a problem with it if i was at the school, but i agree, it does send a bad message about us. it would be fine if she were a transgirl, though

IMO unless you identify as female, don't run for queen - run for king.

You see the problem here is that the school doesn't ELECT a homecoming king. This student probably isn't even gay or identifies as female, but just thinks it's discriminatory that the student body can vote for a queen but not the king, so he did this.

I wanna run for prom queen this year and not for equality but because im a bitch that way lol plus i might not end up in the running lol so i don't get why people would put up a whole bunch of shit knocking him down or not feeling its "right" i mean its for fun lol so it shouldn't matter.
