The sad part is that this is highly unlikely to pass - because the 'Liberal' (read that as Conservative) party here is opposed to Gay Marriage - and neither they nor the Labour Party (who also currently still have the stance that "Marriage should be between a man and a woman") will allow a conscience vote on this issue by their MPs.

At least it keeps the pressure on - the societal viewpoint IS changing. Once it becomes clear that there are a majority of voters who believe that Gay Marriage should be allowed (and I am hopeful that may come faster than I would have thought a few short years ago), then political expedience will outweigh current party dogma and there will be a much better chance of this going through. At least the Labour Party, in their previous term, DID do a lot to rectify most of the legal inequalities that had formerly impacted same sex relationships.
