Packer avers LDS stand on gay marriage

The LDS Church leadership reaffirmed its stand against gay marriage Sunday in a talk to a worldwide church audience by Boyd K. Packer, president of the LDS Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Speaking at the Sunday morning session of the church's 180th Semiannual General Conference in Salt Lake City, Packer equated same-sex relationships with pornography addiction, telling church followers "you can break the habits and conquer the addictions."

Although never mentioning homosexuals, gay marriage or same-sex unions by name, Packer stressed the church teaches that marriage should be "shared only and solely between man and woman, husband and wife" and that those who stray from this teaching will not receive the blessings enjoyed by obedient followers.

"To enter into any relationship that is not in harmony with the principles of the Gospel must be wrong," Packer said.

Packer's comments come as the national debate over gay marriage revs up anew following a federal judge's August decision to strike down California's Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage...

So their narrow minded interpritation of their religious text, which cant be shown to be factually valid, or even remotely proveable, should be the litmus text on what rights people in america are allowed to have?
