I'm sorry...WHAT? What the fuck they have absolutely no right to do that.

I honestly don't see what the problem is, assuming that it's anonymous.

Gay people love saying "oh being gay is just a part of me like my eye or hair color" and have no problem being involved in a survey on those things, but if asked about their orientation than it's not ok? Seems a bit hypocritical to me....

    You beat me to it.

As long as the survey is anonymous I don't see a problem with it either. If anything, it would help our cause by quantifying a minority and bringing it to the school's attention.

I suppose I see your points. I don't know. To me, I only found it as a privacy issue if it wasn't anonymous. But if it is anonymous then nbd.

the thing that more annoys me about it is that people throw a hissy fit. Like someone even saying their sexual orientation anonymously is something terrible. This sends a message to the kids that are LGBT that what they are is unspeakable/acknowledgeable. So much good can be done using demographics. I mean middle school is the time when kids begin to understand sexuality and learn about it so i personally don't see the age as that big an issue. The options they gave in combination with anonymity, i think means there shouldn't be an issue.

No one made a fuss when we were asked to anonymously divulge information about our drug use and sexual promiscuity when I was in middle school. I can't see why this is legitimately any worse.

They just ask us about drug and alcohol use but not about sexuality. I mean if they kids put it down and its not anonymous thats their decision they just need to be prepared for no one understanding coming from a whole never ending bunch of stupid.

I think it's a good idea to do an anonymous survey like this.

That way the school can be aware that there are gay students and can actually make sure they're being accommodated for, thats is that the school ensures there is adequate anti-bullying policy in place, there is inclusive sexual-health teaching, etc.

    Anonymous is fine.

For the most part, it could easily be used as a way to get figures for LGBT youth surveys, or statistics.

I think it's a very good idea actually, so that the school is on the watch for bullying. Even in an anonymous survey, they'd be free to leave it blank if they wanted.

My only worry is why they're asking this question in the first place. Is it really to see if there are enough gay students to justify having something in place for them? Or...?
