There are thousands of others who do find the right person, are desperate to marry, but are forbidden from doing so. And the reason they are not allowed is simply because they are of the same sex, and marriage is confined under legislation to a man and a woman.

The logic of this is difficult to define.

There are people who feel threatened by it. In some way they think the fabric of society will fray or churches crumble. People just get hung up on that one word: marriage. Sometimes it's just plain old-fashioned bigotry.

Whether it's their desire for equal treatment or the fact they need the security of that formal recognition, or just because, gays are not going to give up their campaign for the lifting of the ban, and polls show that increasingly public sentiment is on their side.

Well churches won't crumble in defeat and society won't fray because str8's already get married and then divorce multiple times. Some just marry more then once.
