Laura Ricketts walks through the empty stands at Wrigley Field hours before an evening game begins, stepping at a measured pace, calmly and confidently, and greeting every Cubs employee she passes with a friendly, "Hello."

If the simple act of moving from one place to another could define a person, this stroll from the field to the owner's box is Laura in a nutshell.

She is unassuming in a way that belies her status — co-owner of one of the nation's most storied sports franchises and the historic field they play on; one of four siblings in a family of immense wealth; accomplished attorney; tireless advocate for nonprofits across Chicago.

And, perhaps most important, she is wholly comfortable with who she is — a mother and the only openly lesbian owner of a major U.S. men's professional sports team...

She is doing something great: Instead of vandalizing in churches (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2130530/posts) or going half-naked to say how "proud" she is, she is working behind-the-scenes to have the ideals of change become a reality.

Laura Ricketts seems like a great owner and great spokesperson for the LGBT community in Chicago. It's just a shame she doesn't own the good Chicago baseball team.

I mean who said Lesbians are good at sports??? They might be good for some stuff but they can't quite handle a bat like other women.
