To be honest, as a British student, this is complete rubbish.

I don't know where the sample of people were taken from, but it is clearly completely unrepresentative. I've seen one incident of straight guys kissing in my time at university. Both involved were very drunk and got teased about it for the next few months.

I don't want to disappoint people, but, unless you go to a gay club, guys kissing each other is far from common in my experience as a student!

Wow. I think the article is a *little* optimistic in the number of straight guys who have kissed other guys. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, just that it doesn't happen that frequently. Although I would love it if it did!

I have never seen two straight guys kissing, I agree that it is completly unrepresentative.

Just me who has seen quite a bit of it then? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Granted it usually involves alcohol, but the whole softer masculinity hypothesis doesn't seem all that unfeasible based on the shizzle I've seen.

well, you also have to remeber that when it comes to notion of sexuality and censorship, what is acceptable in america is not the same as what is acceptable in the united kingdom.

I was shocked the first time I was watching bbc america, and saw naked top shots of women, and find that it was on a show that appeared on like bbc4, if I remeber correctly... yet you have to be on a extra paid cable channel like showtime, hbo, or cinemax to see full frontal female nudity.

Also, in some european countries, bumping or kissing cheeks is fairly common, where as in america, that is frowned upon as being too involved for just friends.

maybe the uk is just more progressive in additude about things like this than in america, where blacks and whites holding hands is considered a grevience sins if your in certain parts of the nation.

The whole 'softer masculinity hypothesis' does seem to be becoming more common where I live down in Australia. I haven't seen any actual straight affectionate kissing expect for one where they had there hands in front of their faces and it seemed to be more for comedy than affection.

However it is becoming a lot more common for men to proclaim their affection for one another, bromances is a term that gets used a lot. This is in my small rural australian area though, never been to the UK...yet
