So I was reading the NOM Blog today since I like to keep track on their idiocy, and came across this post. Apparently despite them always trying to say we impose our homosexuality on them, now they're trying to impose their religion and their beliefs on everyone else >_> Not that they haven't before but still, I feel this is going too far.

I saw practically the same thing on a reader board at a local downtown church. I haven't seen it in a while though. I wonder what happened to it.

So let me get this straight, all someone needs to make a point, even a dumb one, is to string together some pics with basic photoshop skills?
OK then this took me 5 minutes.

Look at that, more stock photos of happy couples. They couldn't get one of their happy couples to take a picture & be the face of their hate? How about Brian Brown & his family? He believes in this message so strongly.

if marriage is a institution created by God, why does it predate said religious belief systems by thousands of years. We can trace marriage back father than we can trace the existane of jewish and christian biblical texts.

Religion did not create marriage... religion merely created their own ceremony and rules for it.

according to the constitution of the united states of america, religious people can go screw themselves. quite plainly, they do not have the authority or right to legislate with, or impose upon other people their religious beliefs.

because historical fact is that marriage predates the belief in a judeo-christian god, then marriage is a legal institution. Religious zealots need to learn their place in our society... which is that they can have their faith, but they do not have the right to force it upon others.

The paraphrasing on the billboard is clearly meant to appeal to the quintessential all-American moron, and that makes me laugh.

Okay, so where does this leave the millions of Americans who are not Christian?

I really don't care what your god says about gay marriage, frankly. One of my good friends at work has expressed her disagreement with gay marriage based on this exact argument and that's exactly what I told her.

Also, how do people get marriage as a biblical institution? Adam and Eve weren't married any more than a couple of mating wild animals are.

So can I put up a billboard that says, "Keep your religion out of my marriage", or would that be "attacking conservative values"?

How about all these backwards rednecks not only figuratively attacking my progressive values, but trying to delegitimize my very self identity through abuse of the law?

We don't live under God's law, we live under man's law.

    Get used to it fundies.

ironicly, fundies and right wingers do not live under god's law either. Look at all the adultery that happens in politics, on both sides of the aisle, and both sides, it seems to happen with ones who at times/always tout their 'christian values'. John Edwards is against gay marriage on the basis of his christian beliefs... yet he was more than happy to have a affair on his wife during her early struggles with cancer. John ensign constantly trumps his family values and christian beliefs, and was more than willing to pay off the husband of the woman he was trouncing.

republican economic and social agendas themselves are distinctly anti-christian if you consider 'christian' to mean you follow the teaching and ministry of christ... Christ decried the rich and the nobility, and spoke out for the poor and the sick. He believed in putting the welfare of others before your own. He called for the rich (who have) to help the poor (who have not). all of those things republicans ridicule and demonize as socalistic and unamerican, then in the next breath, they claim we are a nation founded on christian ideals...

...clearly, they arent living up to them.

As mhatma Ghandi (probably mispelled that, sorry) said "I love your Christ, but do not love your Christians."

It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem.

The debate on the surface seems to be about saving people's souls. It is not. If it was ads such as these would be running on a bill board on Castro street. Not in the middle of the bible belt.

No, the issue we are dancing around is control of peoples lives. The fear is not that we will turn into a heathen nation and that god will rain down hellfire. No it is much worse. The fear is that people will live their lives on their terms. They will not force themselves into good little Christian mold. Get married, have 2.5 kids, buy a house and a new Chevrolet in the garage, and most importantly. To know your place and remain obedient to those in control. To not question and to do what you are told. That if that system breaks down and people demand true change, and accountability, what will happen to the upper class, their money and power.

The "homosexual agenda" now is no different than the red scare of the 50s. This has nothing to do with god. It is just propaganda used as a rallying call for the field soldiers in this conflict.

Of course we are no better. Step back and objectively look the news in LGBT media, or even most of the thread in this forum. We are doing the exact same thing.

The worst part. This is nothing new. This war has been fought for all of recorded history. Every couple of hundred years the actors change, but the play remains the same.

Yea, let's equate the simple desire for equal rights to propaganda that claims to speak for god in order to oppress people. That's "the exact same thing." :rolle:

I don't demonize, nor think it is socialistic or un-american for people who have more to help out those that are less fortunate...as a matter of fact, a good portion of those that are very wealthy (people that Washington loves to vilify) give a large portion of their wealth to charitable foundations (Warren Buffett, Ted Turner, Bill Gates, and many more that are not famously rich from a wide political spectrum)
I think it is a great thing to give when you can. My point is that it should not be mandated by the government.

One, the guy is pretty cute, but I'd like him more if his hair was grown out a bit so I'd have something to grab onto. Two, ask anyone who points to such a Bible verse, "Where does it says that man+woman is the only way it should be for all people for all time?" Ask them, "Where does it says that man+man marriage is forbidden in the Bible?" They won't be able to answer those questions other than with their ASSumptions and speculation. It might get them to say that it's because gay=sin, at which point you can point out that there is no restriction to sinners in civil marriage which is what this is all about. Oofta, idiots!

not saying rich people are bad, and I agree, there are many ultra wealthy people who do good, and advocate for the betterment of others. But I was commenting on the fact that basically the republican party constantly trumps up christanity, often to claim moral authority over others *expecally on issues relating to the freedoms of people who are different, or look different*, yet their policies are in direct opposition to christanity itself.

They are demonizing the very thing their religion dictates of them. If we are founded as a chirstian nation, and this goverment, as many right wing republicans seem to profess, is a christian goverment, why then should the goverment not help the poor and the sick, the people who are struggling?

Why is it wrong for the goverment to exist to help its people who are struggling? That is not communisem or socialisem, which are completely different things. We are talking about a society that is spending more time worshipping at the alter of greed and hatred, with everything being a power grab, or a money grab. Not everyone who is poor or unemployed are so because they are fat, lazy, or slobbish, but the republican party speaks unapologeticly about poor and sick people as such.

the top 2% is a huge drain on the US econamy. their tax cuts defunded alot of things, including infestructure and schools.

During the final years of Clinton, we had the strongest middle class in a long time, if ever, and helped as many people as possible have the oppertunity to climb their way up the ladder into the ranks of the american middle class. We gained a balanced budget, and had a surplus, a must if you want to start paying off debt responcibly. We saw prosperity that did not exist in the previous administrations.

That is what america should stand for. It should live up to the idea that everyone can achieve the american dream. People did not make it to middle class by being lazy leechers, they worked for it, and yes there were some people on welfare or foodstamps that were, given the chance, able to get off those support programs, and be self-supporting.

Then the republicans took over, proclaiming their chirstianess, then doing the exact opposate of christ, pandering to the wealthy, and leaving crushing debt to be paid off by the middle class that got decimated.

the goverment only works when it works for all people, not just the wealthy few percent.

It is a choice between a goverment for the people, by the people... or facisem.

the bible tells us that we have a responciblity to care for those less fortunate than us. Goverment needs to be regulated, and accountable. There is nothing wrong about goverment being there to help people in need. morality (and not just religious, but morality based in human reason and common sense) dictates caring for each other.

These billboards represent the problem with the right wing. These billboards are trying to inject hate and fundie religious bias into law. It is saying that the religious beliefs of the few should override the ideals of a country where all men are created equel.

The right wing republican party has been more than happy to tout christanity as a qualification to lead. But they dont live up to them, and harbor the very worst of our society. They shelter hatred, and celebrate greed.

    It is irrifutable.

Very well put and I'll add that they also claim to want personal freedom/smaller government, yet they are the ones who push pro-discrimination policies. It's all about money and they use GLBT issues to get more money into their coffers to further their ultimate political agendas The hypocrisy is so obvious most people miss it. The phrase, "can't see the forest for the trees" never made more sense to me until applying it to these blind followers. Furthermore, many people who would agree with this billboard and vote GOP are the ones who are most hurt by their pro-rich policies. :tantrum:

As for "imposing on others," we're not forcing anyone to agree that marriage equality is right, we're expecting that it should be legal for those who want it. Those who are against us on this can continue to marry someone of the opposite gender. No guy will be forced to marry another dude, but don't keep me from doing so. Oh, and their church can continue to wed who they want w/o issue.

lol. Republicans say they want small goverment, but when they get power, they tend to expand it more than they cut it. Bush was one of the fastest expansion of goverment expenses ever, and obama has pulled back more than bush ever did. the only reason things are worse is because obama inherited a destroyed econamy, while bush inherited one of the strongest in recent decades.
