You know.. I always complain about Norway. Just over 50 % of the population supports gay marriage. We do have gay marriage, but it doesn't have a lot of support. This country is still VERY Christian and conservative. Still, I'm glad I live here.. It could have been so much worse.

I feel really bad for these guys, getting stoned to death just because of who they are. Really sad :frowning2:

Coincidentally, a presumptuous belief of what "God"'s personal preferences are is why these two men will be buried up to their necks in two days' time and pelted with stones until their brains hemorrhage.

This is what happens when religion has too much power. There was the thread last week about the turkish court ordering LGBT organization RAINBOW to close, and that's a country where religion is very powerful.

    This is why I'm atheist.

In an unnecesarrily complex formula, (mainstream religion=government)=/=LGBT rights

Didn't President Ahmadinejad of Iran say 3 years ago that homosexuals and the homosexual “phenomenon” doesn’t exist in Iran?

Who are they condemning to death?

    This is sick.

    True.

I don't believe anybody in their right mind can justify this however. I would be willing to bet the majority of Iranian's aren't actually a big fan of this deep down, the act of actually killing/executing someone, in such a primitive and brutal way at that, shouldn't be a happy/pleasurable one for anyone it's not in our nature as human beings. The "gay phenomenon" does happen there too, I'm certain of it, probably in equal or similar rate to the rest of the world, but then again I didn't grow up in Iran and have never been there so I can't say that for sure. I mean no offense to Iranians I love everyone on this earth, but they're either too stupid (brainwashed) or (more likely) too scared to stop this madness, it's 2011... This is a presumptuous belief of a single dictatorship that uses fear as a means of control, and it's too disgusting to describe with just words.

I wrote letter to pm's office yesterday urging immediate action on this.

The 17 year old was apparently coerced into saying the accused raped him.

The iranian govt and its anti gay propaganda just knows no limits.

Iran's persecution of homosexuals is reminisicent of the early stages of the Holocaust. Think about it: the Nuremburg Laws, then persecution. There are so many parallels.

But they're still going to execute the rape victim, because that always makes SO much sense. Why bother fabricating people's testimony if they're not even going to make a minimally cohesive justification for their repulsive government with it?

From the link in the OP:

Iran Military service age and obligation

"Military service age and obligation: 19 years of age for compulsory military service; 16 years of age for volunteers; 17 years of age for Law Enforcement Forces; 15 years of age for Basij Forces (Popular Mobilization Army); conscript military service obligation - 18 months; women exempt from military service (2008)..."
