technically, the federal constitution doesnt support taking away the rights of a minority by vote... it is just not only beginning to be enforced because people are challanging the constitutionality of such (lets call it) assfuckery.

technically, states rights is a myth, if you consider states rights to be what the right wing considers states rights to be.

states do not have the authority to deny or overrule federal law. that is a core value of the constitutional foundation of the nation. States can have laws that are seperate from federal law, but they cannot have laws that override and contradict federal law.

It is the chocie between the united states of america, or the anarchist states of america.

I'm seriously on the verge of becoming an expatriate. This is ridiculous.

Question: Does the Iowa legislature not have anything better to do, given the fact that our country is going down the toilet?

They are also busy taking away preschool for children in the state, cutting K-12 education funding, and slashing state university funding (10% decrease last year, a ton more to come this year), all to fight a non-existent budget deficit (we actually have a $300 million surplus, but never mind that...) and fund a corporate tax cut.

They're also all riled up about an abortion clinic that is planning on opening in the state.

And these idiots wonder why all the young people leave the state after getting their education...

The U.S. Constitution is a joke. Swaths of sections are ignored on any issues to do with national security and culture.

What happened to the division of church and state?

What happened to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness?

Canada, UK, and probably other countries has got similarly articles and clauses in their rights charters/bills, and yet you see that their courts interpret them to mean exactly what the word says. In the U.S.? Don't even think about it.

Sometimes Republicans denounce "liberal" judges as activists on the bench. I say FUCK YOU. The conservative judges are the true activists on the bench. The liberals judges just want to argue for the letter of the law, which entitles minorities to equal protection and rights. Whereas the conservatives just ignore the law and use semantics to get round the law. What is that, if not activism.
