I think in Australia too. But I use it all the time. I think Wikipedia has a history of where the word got it's origin... it's kinda gross but i think it's really funny at the same time

Huh. Is it derogatory at all or...? I'm a Yankee, so I don't know if it's considered offensive. I'd be a bit miffed if there was a hotel with a sign that said f*gs welcome, and I'd be a little suspicious.

I've always thought of it in the same category as "light in the loafers" or "friend of Dorothy"... a sort of lighthearted term that isn't offensive. But I don't know the context in the UK or Australia.

And maybe it's generational, but I'd actually be amused (and inclined to go in) by a "faggots welcomed" sign at a hotel. Maybe not a "No faggots allowed" one, though.

that would not work in britian. if someone say a sign that said "no fags", they would just assume it meant it was a no-smoking institution.

If you said no fags people would know you ment gays - your not alowd to smoke inside any hotel/returants/work buildings/indoor public places. I supose how offensive it is may kinda vary based on who uses it... kinda like most words

Here in this part of Australia, it's considered an insult, and personally if someone called me that, I would be offended and I'd let them know exactly what I'd thought of them for using it

it depends on context and tone. It can be friendly or hostile.

It's not that bad, people I know just tend to use it to mean camp as well. If it was used as an insult it's hardly hard hitting to call someone a poof :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
