Regional Presbyterian Church body approves ordaining gays, lesbians

    There should be no reason not to.

    Just like there should be no objection if Catholics were to ordain a gay priest. A lot of people have this misconception that the mere state of being gay is incompatible with being the most devout.

    The sad thing is that PCANZ (Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand) is going in the opposite direction. They banned gay people on a technicality (you can't be ordained if you're "in a sexual relationship other than faithful marriage" and gay marriage isn't legal. They won't accept civil unions under their rules) and when it was pointed out to them that this excluded gay people they refused to change it.

    This isn't clear, do they mean they will accept "homosexual" ministers or "practicing homosexual" ministers. That always seems to be the sticking point.

    That could prove tricky. Hopefully it won't and this will pass. FIngers crossed.
